About Terlinguacalcite.com

Welcome to Terlinguacalcite.com, and thank you for visiting. We’re here to preserve the legacy of the original Terlinguacalcite.com, and carry it forward to the next generation of fluorescent mineral collectors. We will be offering a great selection of Terlingua Calcite, fluorescent minerals, and other cool rocks at reasonable prices. For information about the original Terlinguacalcite.com, check out the Terlingua Calcite Backstory from 2004, and About Terlingua Calcite from 2005. These two articles were also published in the newsletter of the Fluorescent Mineral Society, the “UV Waves.”

What is Terlingua Calcite?

Terlingua Calcite refers only to fluorescent calcite from Terlingua, Texas that has certain other characteristics. It must fluoresce pink under long wave ultraviolet (u.v.) light, and blue under short wave. It must also have blue phosphorescence or afterglow that lasts several seconds after exposure to short wave u.v. Calcite with similar fluorescent and phosphorescent properties from other localities are correctly termed “Terlingua-Type” or “Terlingua-Like” calcites. True Terlingua Calcite comes from only one location: Terlingua, Texas.

Unless otherwise noted, all of the Terlingua Calcite specimens shown on these pages and listed for sale are the real thing: True Terlingua Calcite from The Little 38 Mine in Terlingua, Texas.

Our site is new and will be changing, expanding, and growing on a regular basis. As the site grows, we will be adding more Terlingua Calcite, more fluorescent minerals, and other cool rocks (non-fluorescent). You can expect to see lots of new rocks coming to these pages. Check back often to see what’s new!

About our photography

Taking accurate photos of fluorescent minerals is challenging and time consuming. We do our best to take photos that accurately represent the way these rocks look in real life, and how they will appear when you obtain them. To see the colors as they appear on our site, you will need a properly filtered source of ultraviolet light of the correct wavelength (long wave, mid-wave, and/or short wave). We hope you enjoy the rocks you acquire from us; or if nothing else, we hope you enjoy the pictures on the site.

***Please note that the pictures are optimized for a desktop computer monitor and represent what we see with our eyes when we are taking pictures of the rocks. The pictures as seen on a phone or tablet screen may tend to look brighter and/or more color saturated than as seen on a desktop monitor, or in person.***

If you have any questions or comments, or have a request for a specific size, quality, or price point, please let us know via our contact form. Thanks again for visiting Terlinguacalcite.com, and come back again soon!
